IN-VITRO PROGRAM OF PRODUCTION OF SUGAR CANE

The Sugar Cane work executed by more than seven years under an agreement of Cooperation between ENA and sugar cane refineries of El Salvador, where the work of micropropagation has been the source of healthy material of mini plants of cane, has allowed according to refinery La cabaña in its area of influence the renovation of 27,840 acres of the sugar cain park that grind they, which has generated substantial increases in the production of tons of cane in field and crystallization of sugar pounds by ton of cane in factory, increasing its yield, reason why very has been demanded by its sugar cain producers.

BIOTECHNOLOGY DEPARTAMENT

Department of Biotechnology realizes efforts with a multidisciplinary approach, involving knowledge of the areas of Biology, biochemistry, genetics, agronomy, chemistry, economy, among others, to generate modern solutions to agricultural problems that affect different Salvadoran productive subsectors to reach their integral development, competitiveness or to contribute to the nutritional securing of the population.

With the institutional vision to implement, to be useful and to educate in new technologies that contribute in providing competitiveness to the agriculture production, reducing costs and increasing yields, improving the quality of life of the Salvadorans, has been managed to extend the build and to equip the Laboratory of Agricultural Biotechnology, as well as the area of acclimatization and development, which was possible thanks to the cooperation of the Government and Town of Japan, Ingenio La Cabaña, Ingenio San Francisco, Ingenio El Angel, the Town and Government of the United States of America, as well as the own investment of the School, turning this experience into most successful concerning country in terms of biotechnological innovation, allowing to provide services of national impact concerning investigation, social projection, teaching and commercial production.

The agronomists graduated at School count this way, with knowledge in biotechnology and micro propagation rather superior to traditional processes, becoming professionals who can contribute modern technological solutions in an emtrepreneur or offering their technical services.

from YEAR 2001, ENA´s Biotechnology Department has been providing seed adjusted with varietal purity with crops that traditionally are propagate vegetatively and present serious phytosanitary affections lowering their yield to them, as in cane of sugar, citruses, Popes, musaceae and orchyds, among others. This has hit in contributing to the environmental protection, which will be beneficiary by a smaller use from pesticids..
